Update.....Wow it's been a long time

  • May. 9th, 2007 at 10:17 AM

Where do I start?

Lets start with work. Last week we had to close our store due to "Mold Abatement" and the installation of a new cooler. It was scheduled to last 2 weeks but they did it all in one week.
The part timers were picked for the odd shift at other stores and us full time guys got moved to stores around ours for out 40 hours. Art went to the main store, Lips (Jeff) went to Huron Church and I was sent to College. Let me tell you I was not impressed by this move at all.
College is one of the worse stores in the city. Not well run, bad customers and just all around not good.
The plus to this was the store closes at 8pm and I didn't take a till at all that week. All I did was load the cooler and try my best to get that store organized and in a little better shape. After a week at that store it is about 100 times better.
I took Sunday off because my day off for this week was Monday. Not to often do I get 2 days off in one week, let alone back to back. I got out golfing twice and to the driving range once. It was a great weekend off.
Now back to Dougall. Yesterday we had to go into the store and load everything back in that we took out. 9 hours of none stop loading. Muscles hurt that I didn't even know I had. We figured it out and it worked to about 900 cases each that we loaded between the 4 of us. Today I go in for 2:30 so that should be fun.

Now to my personal life. Things are really looking up. I've started to talk to an ex girlfriend of mine. In that department things are really looking up. We talk almost everyday and hang out quite a bit. I'm happy for the first time in a long time. This Saturday we are going to a wedding for a friend of hers, time to get dressed up and impress!!!!
I still have to go out and buy a suit before the wedding.

Well that is all for now, lets see if I can post a little more often.

Still need volunteers (Lots of them) if anyone is interested.

The Big Move....Well for 2 weeks anyway

  • Apr. 18th, 2007 at 10:15 PM

The final word is in and we are closing the store for 2 weeks. I guess they need to do some major work to our cooler and it will require us to close the store. Myself and the other 2 Full timers still have to work so they are moving us to other stores. Art is going to the main store on Walker and Ypres. This is not good for him because it is a VERY busy store. Jeff is moving to Huron Church. All I have to say is....Lucky bastard. Now me. I have to go to College. I go from working at a store with very good customers to slum lands. I guess on the bright side this store is an early store. 8pm Mon.-Wed. and 9pm on the weekends. This all starts April 30th. Should be interesting.

That is all

Cheers!

Speech

  • Apr. 15th, 2007 at 10:35 AM

I have now been a member of Toastmasters for a few weeks and the time has come to "break the ice." That means I have to give my first speech. This is called the Ice Breaker and is indented to do what it says, Break the Ice. It gets you up in front of people and starts to break the fear of public speaking. The #1 speech is about yourself. You tell me how I can write a speech about myself in 4-6 minutes. This is going to be a tough one.

I'll keep you posted.

April

  • Apr. 8th, 2007 at 12:22 PM

Well other than the fact that it is now April 8th and it's cold as hell outside and snowing, this month has started off well. I had last Sunday off for Elizabeth's 2nd birthday, I had this Friday and today off for the Easter weekend and I have Saturday, Sunday and Monday off next weekend for my birthday. I love 5 day work weeks. Now to that bad part. I am sick at the moment and let me tell you how much that sucks. The Habs lost to the Leafs last night and are now out of the playoffs. Maybe I'll see them on the golf course, and like I said at the beginning it is snowing IN APRIL!!! So much for an early start to the golf season.

That is all for now. Just thought I'd put a little update in.

Cheers!!!

Great time of the year!

We have the start of the baseball season, NHL playoffs are here in a week and we just had wrestlemania! What more can you want?

What a week so far

  • Mar. 15th, 2007 at 4:36 PM

Well the week started off great, Monday was good at work and then I had the Toastmasters meeting with John. We had a blast and John ended up winning a mug (very gay looking I might add) for getting up and speaking. Tuesday was good as well. Work was a little busy but not to bad and that night John and I went back to On The Green Indoor Golf. We played Pinehurst #2 and he won the match but I won skins. We played a quarter a hole and I won 1 quarter. It came down to the 9th. Wednesday was a different story. Work started out great and then really went down hill. The Molson truck was scheduled for 10am. Didn't show up to about 11-11:30 and poor Carrie was working like crazy. She did a great job though. At about 2 a guy came in with a TON of empties and that's when it went down hill. It just did not stop after that. Carrie had to cash out her till to go home and I could not keep up. Jeff came in and I can only imagine how pissed he was at the way the store looked but I could not keep up. It took us until about 4 to catch up. Not sure how the night went but I wish I could have got more work done on the Molson truck for Jeff but I just didn't have the time. I felt so bad for them.
It's a good thing that today is my day off. A day to relax and go back at it Friday at 100%. Hopefully it will not be that bad tomorrow.

Great Day!

  • Mar. 11th, 2007 at 10:22 PM

Depending on the people you work with, it can make or break your day. Today was a really good day. We all worked hard and the customers were in and out in no time at all. We never had a huge back up on the empty side and the Ice racks were never that empty. The store was clean and we even got a good head start on tomorrow mornings work. Days when I work with certain people it just turns into a complete disaster. Well done everyone!

One word........WOW

  • Mar. 11th, 2007 at 12:19 AM

Well lets see, 10 cents per bottle. Open for 12 hours. We bought $2400 worth of empties. Can you say insane?

Bottle Drive Journal

  • Mar. 9th, 2007 at 1:52 PM

I've tried to make a site for people to get involved in the Bottle Drive (http://bottledrive.informe.com/index.php) but it really never took off. So now I'm trying to get people to sign up to a new Live Journal community that I've created for the Bottle Drive.

Check it out!

Capitol Theater

  • Mar. 8th, 2007 at 1:22 PM

Wow all I hear about is Mayor Francis is the bad guy for closing down the Capitol. These people that think this have the wrong idea. It's the capitols own fault. You mean to tell me that they had no idea that they were having money troubles. They had tons of ways to make money. Now when they are so far into dept they ask the city to give them money and council approved a loan to get the capitol on there feet again. On the stipulation that the city is paid back as a first priority. The Capitol didn't want the loan but a grant. That's not going to happen. I support our city on this one. It is sad to see the Capitol go but it is there own fault.

Lets go Golfing!

  • Mar. 2nd, 2007 at 9:59 PM

I have a Saturday off, and not only do I have a Saturday off I get to go golfing. That's right, golfing! John and I are going to check out that new On The Green Indoor Golf place out in Tecumseh. It looks really cool and you can play tons of great courses like Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Bay Hill, Pinehurst (#2 course) and many more. I think I want to try Bay Hill or Spyglass.

I'll let you all know what it was like.

Golfing on the 3rd of March. Gotta Love it!

No Roll up the Rim wins

  • Feb. 28th, 2007 at 12:01 AM

Went to the main office to meet with Bill and another manager was working on a few things and bought 4 of us coffee, that cup didn't win. The second coffee was from a girl at work. Not that cup either. I never win. The good news is I'm in a golf tournament this summer already and I get to play indoors this Saturday!!! Golf season is here!!! That's all for now.

Time to read!

  • Feb. 22nd, 2007 at 10:31 PM

I have 3 new books to read. As you are all aware, I'm working towards getting that promotion for management. I'm taking every step I can to help along the way. I will start attending The Toastmasters club on Monday, I hear it builds great leadership as well as confidence in public speaking. I also have a book form the club that I will start to read. I also have 2 books from Dale Carnegie, a big motivational speaker that everyone says is great. He helps with leadership skills as well. I'd go to one of his seminars but they are about $1800 for a weekend....no thanks.

This will all pay off soon enough. Already a year into the game, I'm now the front runner in the city all within the year. It took the other 3 guys that have got the job or have went to the interview at least 3 years to get to this point. Next one is mine!

Bottle Drive

  • Feb. 20th, 2007 at 8:43 PM

Once again we are holding a bottle drive at work for leukemia. I volunteered to become a Team Captain and organize the drive at my store. To say the least I have taken it to the next level. As word spread up the food chain, The District Manager as well as my manager have asked me to head out the drive for the city. I will now be responsible to co-ordinate the drive at every store in Windsor and the surrounding area.

LETS ROCK BABY!!!

Jobs

  • Feb. 16th, 2007 at 12:19 AM

It seems like everyday you here about something closing down or more people losing jobs. The other day it was announced that Chrysler was cutting 2000 jobs in Ontario and 1000 of those jobs are in Windsor, the Lear plant is not looking good, GM and Ford continue to cut people. Tool and Die shops are closing left and right. Just now I read that Halmark Tool and Die is closed. That place has been around for over 30 years. Not only shops, stores are closing left and right. The only good thing going on is The Beer Store. Not only did we sign a deal with the Ontario government to take back LCBO empties we are creating more jobs in both the stores and in the logistics department. When people have money and a job they drink, when they don't they drink more because they are depressed. Not to rub it in or anything but I think we are the only ones that have any job security in this city.

Snow Day?

  • Feb. 14th, 2007 at 11:32 AM

Well looks like everyone has a snow day. Not me, I still have to go to work. People need beer to drink while on a snow day I guess.

Bummer

  • Feb. 9th, 2007 at 8:06 PM

Not a good couple of days, let me tell ya. It all started Wednesday night at work. I had just got to work and went to wash my glasses. Well they broke. Yup that's right the arm broke off. Considering I have a hard time seeing without them I had to use tape. Oh ya, let me tell you how hot that looks. Ok fine I got get new glasses yesterday morning and they said they would be ready today after 5. Cool. Nope. I get there and they have not been sent to "final insection" and the person that does this is off until Monday. Oh ya, fun stuff. On top off all that I had a meeting with the District Manager to talk about going to the Managers Assesment in Toronto next week. Not Ready. So I have to work a little harder and try an get to the next one. On the plus side I found a cool group that will help with Public speaking, leadership and motivation called Toastmaster Club. Waiting to here back on what the cost is if any and what it's all about.
That's all for now.

Cheers

I'm getting old!
